Rinaldi obtains DOT certification for HE40 tires, expanding international recognition of its Enduro line

Certification reinforces the Brazilian manufacturer’s quality, safety and technical capabilities as the company celebrates its 57th anniversary and experiences a period of strong international expansion.

Rinaldi, a traditional Brazilian manufacturer of tires and inner tubes, is celebrating its 57-year history (completed in August) with an achievement that reinforces one of the main attributes the brand has built throughout its history: the quality of its products. The company obtained DOT (Department of Transportation) certification for its HE40 tire line, developed specifically for FIM Enduro and in the discipline.

Granted in accordance with U.S. technical requirements, the certification represents, for Rinaldi, recognition of the quality, safety and technical capabilities employed in the development and manufacture of its tires. The certification also expands the possibilities for using the HE40 in official competitions and strengthens the company’s global expansion strategy.

Founded in 1969 and headquartered in Bento Gonçalves, Rio Grande do Sul, Rinaldi continues to maintain a strong focus on product development for different motorcycling segments. In the case of the HE40, the new certification joins the E-Mark obtained in accordance with European UNECE R75 regulations, expanding the product’s international reach. “This achievement reinforces our commitment to continuous product evolution and opens up new opportunities for visibility in the international market”, says Camila Scarton, Rinaldi’s Technical Manager for Research & Development.

Certification for competitions – The importance of certification goes beyond technical recognition. For Enduro riders, DOT certification can be decisive for participation, especially in competitions. Events such as the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE), as well as FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme)-certified events, establish specific requirements for the tires used by competitors.

The absence of the required marking can even result in a penalty or disqualification from participation. With DOT and E-Mark/UNECE R75 certifications, the HE40 now meets the requirements necessary to be considered “FIM Approved”, expanding the possibilities for its use in official competitions. “R75 regulation certifies tires according to European regulations, while DOT governs U.S. regulations. Having both certifications ensures that the tire is approved by the FIM”, Camila explains.

The process of obtaining certification required integrated work by Rinaldi’s development, engineering, laboratory and production departments. One of the main challenges was ensuring that the HE40 met the technical and performance requirements established by DOT without losing the performance characteristics originally intended for an Enduro tire. The aspects evaluated include properties related to performance, resistance and durability, as well as identification requirements. The tire design must also meet specific criteria, while the tires undergo rigorous technical evaluation.

Certification requires the manufacturer to maintain consistent development and industrial control processes. To maintain DOT certification, Rinaldi must ensure the continuity of the technical and quality standards employed in manufacturing.

For consumers, this provides the assurance of purchasing a product designed to meet internationally recognized technical requirements. The DOT marking, in turn, should not be confused with information about the age of the tire. The manufacturing batch is mandatory information independent of certification; the DOT marking identifies the manufacturer’s certification.

Developed for FIM Enduro – The HE40 was developed specifically for FIM Enduro, serving professional and amateur riders alike, as well as enthusiasts seeking a tire designed for more extreme conditions.

According to Camila Scarton, the line’s key distinguishing feature lies precisely in its development focused on the demands of the discipline, combining a robust design, high performance and construction suited to the challenges encountered in Enduro.

In practice, this combination of characteristics is designed to provide confidence when accelerating, braking, maneuvering around obstacles and overcoming more difficult sections, with predictable tire response. In a competition such as the Six Days, for example, the HE40 was designed to provide a balance of traction, control, resistance and stability, allowing riders to tackle different types of terrain and conditions throughout the event.

The concept also extends to more demanding Enduro trails, making the HE40 an option not only for competition but also for riders seeking performance and reliability.

Another distinctive feature of the brand is that the same tires used by Team Rinaldi riders – such as Camilo Herrera (Chilean rider and current leader of the Elite overall standings in the Brazilian Enduro Championship), Renato Paz (Elite runner-up and E2 category leader in the Brazilian Enduro Championship), Bárbara Neves (multi-time Brazilian champion) and Valentina Forti (2025 Argentine Enduro champion and Latin American runner-up) – are available to consumers in general.

HE40 is already a global product – The certification comes at a time of international expansion for Rinaldi. The company is currently present in 31 countries across the Americas, Europe and, more recently, Asia (the Philippines), and the HE40 is already sold in the markets where the brand operates.

The difference resulting from the new certification is that the product is now also able to meet the requirements of official FIM competitions, increasing its visibility among riders and consumers in international markets.

According to André Ricardo Fiorese, Rinaldi’s Export Manager, internationally recognized certifications such as DOT and E-Mark play a strategic role in building the brand’s credibility outside Brazil. “They are highly respected globally. Every certification we add to our product lines serves as a pillar for Rinaldi’s expansion”, he says.

The strategy is part of a broader international growth plan. The company intends to increase exports’ share of its net revenue from the current 12% to 20% by 2028, while working to expand its presence from 31 to 50 countries over the same period.

The executive considers the HE40 a global product. In this context, certification serves as additional validation of characteristics already present in the products. “Rinaldi currently has high-quality, high-performance products in its portfolio, most of which have already been approved by consumers. Certification simply validates that”, he adds.

Certifications expand international portfolio – In addition to the HE40, Rinaldi has other DOT-certified products. One example is the HE42 line, developed especially for Rally competitions and expeditions, including desert racing applications. HE42 tires also carry the MST (Multi Service Tires) designation and INMETRO certification, allowing their use on paved roads, including transfer sections between different points of a competition or expedition.

Expanding certifications is part of the company’s ongoing strategy to serve different markets and applications by combining technological development, quality control and compliance with the regulations of each region.

About Rinaldi – It offers more than 160 tire sizes designed to ensure performance on specific types of terrain, using rubber compounds developed specifically for each application. The brand manufactures products for motorcycles, agricultural and industrial vehicles, ATVs and transport vehicles, and exports to 31 countries. Its large manufacturing facility, headquartered in Bento Gonçalves, Rio Grande do Sul, has a total area of 41,000 m² and 25,500 m² of built area. The company has always believed in sport as a means of overcoming challenges, evolution and passion for motorcycling, and has sponsored prominent names in Motocross, Enduro, Freestyle and Rally. It intends to continue supporting new talent and celebrating achievements.
